Softimage|XSI最知名的部分之一是它的Mental Ray超级渲染器。Mental Ray图像渲染软件由于有丰富的算法，图像质量优良，成为业界的主流，而目前只有XSI和Mental Ray是无缝集成在一起，而别的软件就算能通过接口模块转换，Preview（预调）所见却不是最终Rendering所得，只有选择XSI作为主平台才能解决此问题。 有人说Mental Ray是所有动画软件中最强的渲染器，在我看来这一点也不夸张。Mental Ray渲染器可以着色出具有照片品质的图像，《星际战队》中昆虫异形就是用Mental Ray渲染的。许多插件厂商专门为Mental Ray设计的各种特殊效果则大大扩充了Mental Ray的功能，我们能用它制作出各种各样奇妙的效果。Mental Ray还具有很快的渲染速度。我曾做过一个实验，用3DS Max的raygun和Softimage|XSI的Mental Ray来渲染同一张玻璃杯的图像，Mental Ray的渲染速度要高于rangun很多，而且渲染品质更是让raygun相形见绌。Mental Ray Manager还可以让我们轻松地制作出各种光晕、光斑的效果。
